In multi-market optimisation, there's an art to balancing risk-taking and diversification. Our optimiser uses forecasts to map expected returns and risks across available markets and allocates capacity accordingly. We aim to build diversified positions that reduce exposure to any one market while still retaining enough flexibility to capitalise on high-value events. Effective bidding and pricing strategy is crucial—we avoid saturating the market or cannibalising upside by being selective in our positions across markets.

Yes. We use a rule-based degradation model based on clearly defined parameters agreed with our BESS partners—these include cycling allowances, average discharge power during active periods, and annual average state-of-charge (SOC). These constraints are built into our optimisation logic to ensure compliance with OEM warranty terms and degradation expectations. Rather than applying an explicit degradation cost function, we structure our optimisation around these operational envelopes to ensure long-term asset health and warranty alignment. While we don’t currently apply a real-time degradation cost curve (e.g. € per MWh throughput), our approach ensures degradation is implicitly managed through adherence to technical boundaries, , the result is that we have a warranted year-on-year degradation curve guaranteed by our partners and their OEMs.

BESS assets can earn revenue in the imbalance market by responding to system imbalances in near real time—either charging when there’s excess generation or discharging when there’s a shortfall. If the BESS can predict or react faster than the market settles, it can profit from the price difference between its scheduled position and the real-time imbalance price.
