2021 – what have we learned?

Sympower’s Founder and CEO Simon Bushell reflects on successful 2021.

“2021 has been an amazing year for Sympower” said Simon when asked about the achievements of last year. Over the past year, Sympower has grown from around 30 to, as of the beginning of 2022, almost 80 people. At the very beginning of the year we have closed our last investment round. We also have managed to expand our operations to Norway, as well as sign partnerships outside of Europe.

We are on the brink of going live in a few other countries.

Bushell continued: I think, one of the things I’m most proud of this year is that in spite of us being spread across lots of different countries everyone working from home, due to Covid and growing the team from 30 to 80 people, we’ve really maintained this sense of the Sympower spirit and culture which is amazing to see when we’re going through all these changes.

2022 is going to be a really exciting year for Sympower.

On the one hand, we are going to be expanding to a lot of new countries. Increasing number of energy markets we can supply flexibility to. But on the other hand, we’re also going to be looking at how we can create more value for our customers. So for example, using AI to be able to really optimise how and when we use people’s flexibility, and also looking at the data we have and how we can use that to create more value to our customers.

Simon ended the interview with his take on the current state of the energy sector:

If you see how quickly the supply of energy is changing, with much more renewable energy coming into to the system, and how that’s already having a big impact on prices and imbalances and so on… I think it’s clear that demand side response is going to play a really big part in the system going forward. – Simon Bushell, Sympower
